Clayton Fourie Consultancy provided the design , contract preparation and on site supervision of the £3.2M electrical refurbishment at Erskine Bridge.
The 1.3 mile Cable Stayed box girder bridge over the River Clyde was opened in 1971.
The project involved the replacement of the entire electrical network and apparatus in order to bring the project up to current safety and environmental standards. This included the replacement of over 900 light fittings both at road level and also inside the bridge itself, as well as the Aircraft Warning Lights on top of the main towers with new low energy LED fittings. All apparatus inside the bridge is DSEAR Zone 2 compliant and 16 30m High mast columns.
The Road Lighting is by TRT Lighting and benefits from the integration of a Philips Central management System, which can control part night dimming dependent of demand from traffic flow.
The main contract was undertaken by Lightways of Larbert, assisted by MarMac Ltd, who specialised in the hazardous area electrical work inside the box girder.
